The Lollipop Person of the Year Awards encourage every primary school in Britian to nominate their lollipop person in a bid to win the coveted title of the Kwik Fit Insurance Lollipop Person of the Year 2009.
The winning school will be presented with £3,000 to spend on school equipment and the Lollipop Person of the Year will win a holiday of a lifetime. Twelve regional winners from across the UK will also receive £500 worth of holiday vouchers and each of the 12 schools will be awarded with £100 worth of book tokens.
Makerfield MP Ian McCartney is encouraging local schools to nominate their Lollipop person and has spoken of the great work lollipop men and women across Wigan do in keeping safe children and adults as they travel to and from schools often negotiating busy local roads.
According to road safety charity Brake, 4 million children travel to and from school on foot every day. Pedestrian injury is listed as the leading cause of accidental death of children in the UK.
Ian McCartney MP said, “It’s always nice to be shown appreciation and recognition for the job you do; getting children safely across busy roads is a huge responsibility and a very important part of helping to keep communities safe."
“Lollipop Person of the Year is a great way of demonstrating the admiration we all have for School Crossing Patrols who can be relied upon to be on duty in all weathers.”
TV Personality Lorraine Kelly will officially launch the competition on 23rd September.
